What if it still reports several "Permissions differ on..." after it has gone through the process of repairing the permissions? Just click it again (...and again...and again...and again...), or is there a need for more drastic measures, or is it not important?

If reality differs from what OS X expects, any number of issues can be the result: printers not working, applications not opening, or even being unable to login.
